One thing I have learnt from Marketing is that bringing down your price is a no non. Giganews might offer more connections and price that higher to make their current plans look cheaper.

Maybe I'm wrong.

But wow Astraweb is the best :D

Competition is great, isnt it? About the only reason to stay with GN at this point might be if you wanted access to their servers in Asia. I could easily see that being a selling point for some users. Otherwise Astraweb and GN both cover North America and Europe for everyone else. Now we need to get the nzb sites to up their retention as well.

retention capacity upgrade to 365 days

astraweb is pleased to announce that we have just completed an infrastructure upgrade to increase our retention storage to 365 days.

Currently our server storage capacity stands at 365 days.

Our retention is currently growing daily towards 365 days. The latest retention statistics as well as our retention capacity is available at:

http://www.news.astraweb.com/tools/stats.html

our retention growth is for all groups. Our retention growth also includes headers, unlike many other services that do not include headers as part of their retention growth.

Astraweb is committed to providing the best value service!
:o

another satisfied astraweb customer here. been with them 2 weeks now since bailing on easynews and completion, connections and retention have been great.

I'm thinking of leaving giganews to save myself some money and even returning to torrents but before I do I was just wondering what I can expect speed wise rfom my 50MB connection on astraweb?

I get much better speeds on a single connection and uploading to Giganews due to much closer proximity and great routing to their datacenter. But both max out my line over multiple connections. The upgrade in retention is always nice, but I'll go with Astraweb unless Giganews price drops or something.

There is something else I just thought about. I read elsewhere that Giganews has taken down some files or parts of the articles to comply with copyright claims, and I figure they get a lot more of these as the biggest provider. Anyone know about that issue, especially compared to Astraweb?

fuck no... 98.99% of shit on all the servers is copyrighted.. IF anything someone alerted them of illegal porn and I hope they'd take that out.

maybe we could get luckey, gn goes under and astraweb picks up the hardware, then we'll end up with 600 something days retention... lol...

To the the Giganews Staff that LURK these threads....... Offer me your retention for astraweb prices and maybe I'll think about looking into joining you.

I'm on a 1gbit home connection in Sweden and I pull around 18-25MB/s with 20 threads, so I would guess that u should have no probs pulling 50Mbits from UK... I know a lot of ppl who have 100Mbit+ here and every1 maxes out..

Wow, looks like I've got no choice but to sign up now! The only thing is, now I have to sign up to a NZB site to make it worth it. Is Newzbin my best option?

I'm guessing that 50Mb connection is with Virgin Media? I've heard of a few people being able to max it out (47-49Mb/s) with astraweb, so you should be able to. :)

That line hasn't been true for many months now. Giganews needs to decrease their monthly prices to half of what of they charge now for Platinum accounts to even compete with Astraweb.

Seriously, there is absolutely no reason to use Giganews at this point. You're just throwing money away subscribing to them.

Please do the math - I'm neutral as I have both services as I compare them
