Asthma in the British army?

I smoke(d) heavily, and I had a history of asthma when I was 11. (I have not had an attack since, I am 15 now) when I run for long periods of time I cough up phlegm and wheeze, which I think I can put down to smoking. In a years time, assuming everything has cleared up, will I be clear to join?
