Associating Files with Media Player Classic?

I downloaded MPC (media player classic) to play video files. Its a .rar with the exe in it. I tried right clicking mpeg-1, mkv, and avi and setting them to mpc with Open With:, but when i browse and select the mpc program, it wont designate it to be used to open video files. Is there any other way to make avi, mpg, and mkv open default in mpc
