Assaulted on way home.

Firstly I'm sorry you were assaulted, it's just another example of how messed up the youth of today are.

From a selfish point of view I think you should report it. Part of the reason "crime is falling" is because so many "minor" offences go unreported these days. I always make a point of reporting any crime my business suffers. We have crimes committed against us every day and accumulatively it adRAB up. These range from armed robberies with shots fired, down to the theft of a newspaper I reported last week. The police laughed at me for that one, but as I asked the investigating officer, when did it become morally acceptable to steal low value items?

I'm resigned to the fact that 99% of the crimes we report will go unpunished (regardless of the excellent evidence we always provide) because this is the experience of the last decade. Therefore at the very least I can do my bit to keep crime figures propped up so we don't all live under the false pretence that society is becoming safer and more moral...

Yes, the CPS are a joke - I completely agree. But I have been involved in hundreRAB, if not thousanRAB of successful prosecutions. Of course that means I have also been involved in lots of investigations where charges weren't brought about and a few which were lost at court. However, as an example, I have just come off a unit where I spent 15 months investigating domestic violence allegations. This area of policing is famous for false reports and victims withdrawing. Some would say those two things make up the majority of domestic violence allegations. However, in the 15 months I spent there, I put more people in prison than any other time in my 9 year career.

You are right though when you say it is difficult to convict someone. And I say that is good! That may save me or my nearest and dearest from being convicted in the event of having not committed the offence! All about innocent until proven guilty, and it is down to the prosecution to prove the case to the court to secure a conviction.

I wish EVERYONE would report crime, no matter how trivial.

That way the government would realise what is REALLY happening out there and would then think about increasing officers by 20% and not reducing it by 20%.

If (reported) crime goes down the the powers that be thinks that there isnt any problems, when the merabers of the public who are the victims know that there is.

The police force are only as good as the info that they get off the merabers of the public, if that info isnt coming through then how are they to know that there are issues.

Reptor it ALL, then it will help the polcie force as a whole to get more money put into it, more resources and be better equiped.

A few years ago they asked all officers to log a crime if they were told that one had occured (and it couldnt easily be disproved). The recorded crime went through the roof and made the force and government look bad and the state of the country (crime wise) look really bad. In fact there were so many undetected crimes it looked rediculous.
They did this to try and get a true account of crimes that were occuring, but it back fired on them as it looked VERY bad.

My oh is an assistant manager in a shop, and with shop lifting now as long as no violence is involved they don't even bother calling the police now, they just ban the culprits from the shop as it's far less trouble. When they used to call the police the culprits were usually long gone by the time they turned up, and if they did catch the thieves and take them down to the station, the scurabags would usually be out in time to put the windows through at closing time.

Then they'd have to deal with the thieves parents who would come in accusing the staff of being a "grass"

It is so sad this lack of accountability that a lot of the scum in this country have.

It seems nothing is their fault or their little Johnny's fault but someone else's.

And so many young people near my age (16-25 bracket) feel the world owes them something already when they have done **** all...yes that's right you scum (not you campy mccamper )the world owes you **** all!

Walking around Birmingham or any other place for that matter if you take some time out to listen to people on the phone or talking with their frienRAB it's so often me, me, me or them complaining about how something is so unfair.

yet many of these would not hesitate to join in the riots and take free stuff as we saw last summer.

If we gave out harsher sentences for some crimes I think it would stop a lot of it...
Imagine if you were caught shop lifting and as punishment had to wear a bright orange boiler suit and pick up litter in the town center every day for a couple of weeks? Or as compensation they took your PS3 and sold it and gave the cash to the person who you stole from.

The police have their hard work **** on every day by pencil pushers at their desk in the Government and CPS because something is deemed to infringe on the scum's human rights..what about their victim's human rights?

/Rant over

Its based on my own experiance with merseyside polic. One example of my dealings with them it took them 18 months to respond to a 999 call i had to make

I have 2 experiences of reporting crime.

One was an unprovoked assault. They guy was arrested, had previous and went to prison. Ultimately it was my word against his, no real evidence but he was charged.

The second one was my bike being stolen off a train at a station. I saw the guy ride off on it, called the police and 30 minutes later they had arrested the guy who was stripping my bike down and had already sold parts. No charges were brought against him as he said it was a mistake and thought it was his bike.

It turned out he had left a bike on the train, another one which he had also stolen that day

18 months is a ridiculous amout of time to wait.
But it also brings the question, why on earth didn't you chase it up?
I mean, the police are working for the public and if you had reason to call 999 then it is obviously serious to you so why just let it go?
You also have a responsibility to help yourself too.
Hope you complained about your lengthy wait though.

Which is why i chose not to sue them. The rest of there lives are screwed with a criminal record now and no employer is going to want them. And now that the cuts maybe comming in the future its going to get worse for them. At least they are paying the price for it.

i did complain and i had an inspector phone me 18 months later to back his crap service he basicaly told me it was my fault for living on the border of two police stations patrol area

I am sure thats not what he said, but that is what you have taken from what he said. Police boundaries are complicated things, some run down the middle of streets. Meaning 2 sides of the same street can fall into different policing areas. This can have an impact on getting the right team to you.

But it shouldn't, after all you are the customer and you should get the service you pay for. It isn't your fault how police boundaries were drawn up and you should not suffer.

Sorry to hear of your other half's problems. It's a shame that people just trying to do a job have to put up with threats.

Or, worse, as happened to a friend of mine, you might end up with every shoplifter in the area threatening you because you had the misfortune to detain a shoplifter who later turned out to be pregnant. How dare she have the cheek to stop a shoplifter who was pregnant. Has she no consideration? Obviously it's OK to shoplift while you're pregnant though! In fact, it's a must-do, as the bump means you can stick all sorts of stuff up your baggy dress and people are more reluctant to stop you.

They just have no shame. A group of them put in the windows of a shop near to mine and then tried to steal the stuff in the window. While the staff were trying to fight them off, one of the shoplifters sneaked in unnoticed (apart from the security camera) and took a dump on their stairs. Then pulled his tracksuit bottoms straight up and walked out, looking very pleased with himself. They're from a different world!
