Aspirin Mask update...

Another question from a newbie - hope you don't mind.:)

I bought aspirin today, lightly coated, as I couldn't find uncoated - how often should you do this mask? Morning and night? Just once a day? I am extremely oily and suffering pretty bad cystic acne right now. I wash my face and within 20 minutes I could fry an egg on it - will this mask help with the oil?

DepenRAB on your skin. I was using it every night for a while (probably over do), but had no dryness problems. I also added a capsule of green tea extract for its antioxidant properties (containing 50% polyphenols). I noticed my breakouts consistently lessen and skin looked much more toned and my face more youthful.
:)

It has been 9 months since I started using the aspirin mask and I am consistently clear still. I had all over body acne and face acne, both cystic and white heaRAB/black heaRAB. Now I use BP lotion one time a day and use the aspirin mask 1-2 times per day and I have no acne. The only side effect is my skin is dry. I am currently seeking a moisturizer to corabat this that will not cause my acne to return.

Just wanted to let everyone know!

Oh, and this is my regimen:

I dissolve a small bowl full of non-coated aspirin with some warm water. When it is paste consistency, I rub it all over the affected areas and let it dry. It normally takes about 10 minutes to dry. When it is dry, it flakes off. I stand in the shower with it off and rub all the excess aspirin off my skin. I then leave the remnant powder on. I then put moisturizer on over it and wear makeup as normal.

Good Luck!

Do not use ibuprofen or acetaminophen, they are not the same chemical as aspirin. Aspirin is atesalicylic acid, which is pretty much about the same as salicylic acid but in buffered form and this is why the aspirin works.

You can can also use it on your body as well, its up to you if you would like to put moisturizer, I guess since it can be drying that it would be a good idea.

Hi

I know you are supposed to use uncoated aspirin...:(..i unfortunately couldn't find uncoated ones at the drug store, so I got chewable aspirin..is it the same thing you were talking about??

It makes my skin much redder making me think its too harsh for my skin. I would dissolve only the aspirin tablets and put it directly on my face. How can I make this mask less irritating to my skin?

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post exactly where, but I'll take a chance ;) I usually buy it at Rite Aid pharmacy, but, I've also seen it at Wal-Mart and Walgreens..

I never had a skin problem when I was a teenager. As soon as I started birth control it's been a battle. I tried changing pills, all kinRAB of products, nothing worked. After taking tips from different posts I put together something that finally worked!! My skin is 99% better. I get a pimple here and there, but it's super small, doesn't hurt and doesn't last.

I disolve non-coated asprin (the grocery store brand was about a dollar a bottle) in lemon juice. I read lemon juice helps with redness and irritation. I then add honey to make it a spreadable mixture. I was using yogurt, but I think it was better before without it. After I do the mask I moisture with aloe. I keep a piece of the plant in the fridge. I just snip off a bit and rub it on my face. It helps to heal the old redness too! I do this once a day. Finally something that works and so cheap too!

When I need a mid afternoon toner to freshen from being oily I use a mixture of apple cidar vin and water. I don't use this often, but does not dry my skin out like store toner.

I started out using the aspirin only as a scrub.. not as a mask.. simply because of the flaky dryness it caused, but, I'm now able to use it as a mask without problems. The key is definately a good moisturizer.
I have a weird issue with my facial skin.. it's insanely oily, yet, so sensitive that everything dries out the surface layer. So, picture a shiny, oily, flaky face lol and you get the old me. I'm also very very acne prone.. practically everything breaks me out. For the past few months, I've been using a moisturizer called Purpose dual treatment moisture lotion.. It's completely oil-free and also has SPF 15 protection - it's a pump bottle and I only use one pump for my face and neck area (it's around $9-ish, but one bottle lasts me roughly 4 months).

Seriously.. it's reaaaally good stuff and it doesn't leave me all oily feeling or anything like all other moisturizers I've tried. I've been using it religiously morning and night and have no problems with it whatsoever. It's the only moisturizer I've ever used that hasn't caused breakouts. The true test was making it through the summer without looking like a greasy pizza and I made it through wonderfully! :D

Thanks for the update TKK3.

I am on week 1 of using the aspirin mask daily on my body. My face has been wonderful since I started Oil of Olay Regenerist products. So far so good on the aspirin mask ( adult onset acne on my face, back arms and chest...any sometime buttocks...) I really like how it exfoliates.

ishi, I couldn't find uncoated either. But I bought a bottle any way. I'm not sure if it matters or if it just makes it more grainy.

no, it has to be plain generic aspirin tablets. go to your local pharmacy and look for a clear bottle with white aspirin tablets, as cheap as possible.

You do not need to use that many aspirin. I usually use about 3-5, and what I do is hold the aspirin in my hand and keep adding drops of water until they dissolve to the point that its more of a paste. I use it as a scrub, which is the best way that its going to exfoliate your skin. You do not have to scrub very hard, just gently rub the grandules all over your skin. I do this while Ive just used my cleanser and havent rinsed it off yet. It does not fell nice as you're doing it, and will feel kinda gritty. But when you rinse it off, your skin should feel really soft. If you put aloe vera gel on afterwarRAB, it should help with some of the redness and to also soothe your skin.

sorry for not reading the above posts but i keep seeing aspirin mask topics, can someone tell me what an asperin mask is?? how do you make them and are they really effective??

To make the aspirin mask less harsh (and in my experience, much more effective) do the following:

Take 4-5 aspirin (uncoated/microcoated); dissolve in 1 tsp of plain whole milk yogurt (just put them in and wait about 4-5minuts then mix with a spoon); finally to this thick mix, add a few drops of honey and about 1/2 to 1 tsp. of white sugar.

Apply the mixture and wait till it dries -- rinse off with cool water (no need to scrub).

Can I use this aspirin mask on body acne too? I have more pimples and scarring on my buttocks than anywhere else. Does it work as effectively on the body as it does on the face? And also, would I need to apply moisturizer to the buttocks after the mask or should I just leave it be?
