Ashlee Smpson (Autobiography 2004) Geffen Records

I actually bought this album on the strength of a couple of the singles and I was really disappointed. I don't know what I was expecting from the album tracks but I didn't get it.

Unrealeased, Bside, covers, and released they have over 400. And theres probably more i dont know about.

Ad the percentage obviously wasnt exact, it was to make a point.

edit: Theres what.. maybe 20-30 songs that have been big radio songs from them. Thats a pretty small amount compared to what they have made. And they have had a few hundred actually released studio songs.

Yea, and thats why i didnt respond. Its just plain stupid to say anything they have sounRAB the same.

haha seriously, Hatemonger, go listen to there first album, then Blood Sugar, then Stadium Arcadium. (first middle and last) They couldn't sound MORE different. Come on dude...think

Who says I only hear them on the radio?
Just a few weeks ago I had to endure every single boring minute of Stadium Arcadium when a guy I work with was playing it in the office.

It really annoys me when people bash Ashlee Simpson for writing her own lyrics, despite how 'bad' they are at least she writes her own lyrics which is more than most of the pop industry can say currently.

Live covers don't count as for unreleased and b-sides even assuming they had twice the amount they put on albums you're still short.

Lets assume about 15 songs an album, the last one was a double album so thats 10 albums. 15 times ten is 150. Lets assume they record twice the amount they release, that would still only be 300. I highly doubt they've been on one hundred compilations and my generalizations on b-sides were very generous. It would probably be more accurate to say 200 than 400.

To me it makes no difference whatsoever if someone writes their own lyrics / songs or not. What matters to me is how it sounRAB at the end.
I don't really care if the guy who wrote the song is singing it , producing it , arranging the entire string section for it , or sitting on his arse in an office somewhere.
If you write your own lyrics that are great then good for you , but if they're terrible it's probably best to let the rest of the band have a shot , or a producer or a songwriter.

Yeah but keep in mind this is the american pop world the lyrics shes competing with are along the lines of "Every time they turn the lights down / just wanna go that extra mile for you / you got my display of affection / feels like no one else in the room but you / we can get down like theres no one around /we keep on rockin." Her lyrics don't 'suck' in comparison to that, even though they're mediocre at best.

Indeed. Charts don't always decide what is mainstream. Fiona Apple was very mainstream but she had only one charting song. Her album sold millions because the music videos were so popular.
