Slight improvement.

$25 =1mb
$40 =7mb
$60 =25mb
$100 =200mb


I refuse to pay for any of those plans when our American neightbours pay $19.99 for unlimited.
 
I wanted to update to the new GPS Curve yesterday and the only way they would let me is if I switched data packages...I have 50MB for $60....which is still insane....stating that they no longer offer this rate. I give these @%@^% over $500/month (almost a mortgage)....and they treat all of us like ****.
 
you're right they're much more expensive than our southern neighbours. But because we have one tenth the population and even less the cellular penetration AND even LESS the Blackberry users, it does cost more to run a data network for canadian carriers. You can't compare prices across borders. Markets vary, and the cost of running different businesses vary. Do you refuse to buy food because it's cheaper to eat in Taiwan? (which it is, I've done it).
I absolutely agree that our data prices are high, and I as much as any one, would like a smaller phone bill, but it's not as simple as saying "lower your prices".

Don't forget to call in and specifically ask for the Double your Data for $5 add-on.

You can go from 25 mb for $60 to 50 mb for $65, for example.
 
I agree with Paulypaul. Call in, say you want to cancel. When they ask why, explain that you do not want to change plans to upgrade phones. They'll usually give you the phone and at a discount. I did this about 2 years ago.

Paulypaul, I need to get a data plan for my phone. Do you think it would make sense for me to go with the $19.99 American provider and use the data plan in Canada? Will there be roaming fees?

You'll be charged for roaming data charges making the $19.99 data plan not even applicable...take AT&T for example, you could get their plan, which would be Unlim, but canadian data would be $.15 cents per KB
 
I've researched this to no end b/c I'm sick of Telus and Rogers jamming us on data and minutes (and roaming charges in the U.S.).

Verizon is the only carrier to offer unlimited data (i.e. 5GB) and NO roaming fees in Canada for $70/month. It's called Globalemail:

They also have a Canada voice plan that gives various levels of minutes for ALL of N.A. without roaming charges. We live in B.C. and I just put my family on the Americas Choice w/ Canada Family version ($10 per additional line), for a total a lot less than Rogers was hosing us for.

I'll be adding the Pearl any day now. That will cost $10 for the voice and $70 for unlimited data w/o roaming charges.

What's interesting is that Verizon's partner, Telus, doesn't have a reciprocal plan. Using Verizon phones in Canada is cheaper than using Telus phones in the States.

I know this sounds like an advertisement, but competition is the only way to force Canadian carriers to lower their price points. Maybe they will "hear me now" if enough Canadians start switching service.
