As Ford or GM's CEO, what do you do?

It's the mid 1990's and you are the CEO of Ford or GM. You have a choice. The American people at this time want SUV's, and lots of them. Compact cars are still selling, but only moderately well. Gas is well under $2 per gallon with no indication it will go up. SUV's give your company record profits, small cars give a much smaller profit. Do you go with the flow and give people what they want, and make record profits doing it, or do you try to convince consumers to squeeze into compacts when gas is cheap, giving up profits in the process?

Keep in mind companies are there to make profits, and no one could have foreseen 9/11 or any of the events afterwards.

I would have given a big middle finger to the UAW and structured my business model to be more like Toyota and Honda.

Of course they should have done that in 1982.

Well, you can start by getting rid of operational inefficiencies. Start firing people regardless of what unions say. It's like Jesus, UAW, CAW are retarded. When oil was at like $35 they walked out on an oil refinery. It's like, what are you nuts? They're just a bunch of greedy unrealistic phonys. With this economy they look as retarded as those CEOs with their bonuses. You can't stay competitive when you pay your staff more than what they pay in Japan and make crap product.

Start working on reliability. Toyota also makes trucks. Toyota was well position for the crisis.

The most bizarre thing is they still show those retarded truck commercials aimed and cowboys with small diks. Do you not learn? This is why they're bailout didn't get through.

I think automakers in North America failed. They didn't invest into R&D for electric and hybrid now they're getting shafted. The key quality for a CEO is to have a vision on where they industry is going. They obviously failed.

They have eight brands under their umbrella. All of them are crap.
Toyota has three. Lexus and Scion are also theirs. Scion is targeted at Generation Y kids. Look as Scion, Toyota started a brand from scratch, they only make three models. Saturn alone has like 7. Why the f*** do CEOs at GM do not know how economies of scale work?

I think GM is just a fat, lazy corporation that's suckling on taxpayers. Along with UAW. I really despise UAW, because I really despise anyone who nags for dollars. My base pay is 25k, I get one sick day per year and 13 days of vacation, no dental or vision, in the last 6 month I didn't miss a single day of work. So I suggest, lazy aholes from CAW and UAW look for another job, I'm not buying their crap.

You have to give people what they want. You can't dictate the market. Even Ford and GM combined are not that powerful. If Ford and GM had tried not building SUV's some other manufacturer would have happily taken their market share.
