AS drops Code Geass

I know this might also be on the Adult Swim forum, but I was just informed that Adult Swim has lost all rights to Code Geass last Friday. That's another anime they've lost all rights to since Death Note. Now AS doesn't have an antihero.

Source?

I wouldn't be suprised if Adult Swim did ditch Code Geass, they have played it for a long time now and there is a new Geass series in the works so my guess is that they will eventually pick that up once it's dubbed and ready to go.

I do enjoy me some Code Geass though.

Considering the terribad ratings, abysmal time slot, total lack of fan interest and/or readily available sequel/compilation film, this was inevitable. Farewell Geass. You just didn't click with a US audience for several reasons.

Well the main reason I'd imagine is it tried to slip in Mecha, followed by a school girl setting. You can pretty much tell how they felt about the show through the comments they made on their online episode clips.

So it's been airing this whole time up to this point? (I don't have cable, so I wouldn't know.) Color me shocked.

I don't usually support this sort of network double-dipping, but I can't help but wonder if Bandai would shop Geass to SyFy and if it would do well there. It's pretty much morbid curiosity, but it would be interesting to get some concrete "show vs ASA" exhibits.

I'm going to say that it is AS's own fault the show got bad ratings. Geass has very good DVD sales, so obviously it did click with the US audience. AS just has poor marketing skills when it comes to anime.

I can confirm. I am one of the folder Helpers over at the ASrab and we just got word from one of the admins about it. Here's an official thread on it by a fellow Helper.

Surprised it happened already.

I don't know why you state it like Adult Swim specifically "dropped" Code Geass. Like most short term anime, they had a two year contract for it, and the contract ran out since they didn't renew it. We knew it would happen around this time (since CG premiered two years ago) so it's not really that surprising. Still it is kind of dishearthening how few AS Animes can actually cycle. I mean what anime does AS still own anime? Like a half dozen (Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, FLCL, Full Metal Alhcemist, Ghost In the Shell, Big O, Bleach, Full Metal Alhcemist Brotherhood and the upcoming one and... I don't think anything else). Really the only ones they have are the ones they sort of payed for, still really like, or the really long series that don't have the same two year contracts that other series do.

While I mention that as a possibility, realistically, what are the odRAB of that occurring?

Still, SyFy aired Rave Master and Monster on the same lineup so anything is possible with them.

If Manga Entertainment would pick up Code Geass, then it would air on Syfy. I hope they'd do the same for Death Note in the US, since it's been licensed by their UK partners.

Well... I can't say I feel like it's much of a loss.

Also, the Blood+ show page is still up. Someone at the site should probably attend to that because they gave that up earlier this year didn't they?

The one thing that saddens me about this is even though Geass was a shounen anime it pushed TV-MA at times and now GitS is the only anime AS has with that level of content. Losing more of the "adult" in Adult Swim anime once again. Though Geass was hardly "adult" so again... I don't consider it a loss. And while I enjoyed the show, I hated the dub.
