Lynne - Not A Supermum!

According to a study, British children are high up with the most unhappy children in the world. The conclusion is that modern British parents are too selfish, putting their own success and happiness before the welfare of their children... anyone agree/disagree? Opinions?
I agree - I think it's mostly rubbish. I think there is a happy medium between sacrificing your whole life for your child, and sacrificing their life for yours. Most parents go in with their eyes open and we know that changes have to be made and that we come second... In saying that, there are always a few exceptions to every rule.
Hmm.. yes, modern society is obsessed with 'instant gratification' and our children are picking up on that too...

yeah i read that on the bbc website this morning and got really riled up. Apparently kids with only one parent are three times more likely to have behavioural problems according to their stupid study anyway but get this single parents can adopt children!! Is that not contradicting things a bit!

I am a student and whilst I am studying my son is in two nurserys where he gets to play with his friends and learn new skills. He is far from unhappy the only time he cries is when he has to go home.

To me this study is a load of nonsense!!

Haha you know, people have always been selfish. I don't think things have changed as much as people think, just the appearances of things.

Ouch! I don't think hubby and I are selfish parents. I work part time, can and do work from home if a child is ill, one of us (usually me) is always home when children are finished school. Happy to help with homework, run taxi service etc.

Both places of education closed today because of snow so I'm working from home and watching kids building a snowman in the garden with next doors children. Their mum is staying home for them as well.

Like you we don't claim to be super mums but not selfish either.

Don't know that we are any more selfish than previous generations but kids today (mine included!) never seem to be happy for more than 2 minutes.
When I was little we only got "big" presents at Christmas and birthdays, now they expect these things to be on tap.

Since having y own children i found many parents that have are more concerned with their jobs ( even those that don't NEED both parents working) and future careers than with whose raising their children for them. My husband and aren't well off but we decided that at least during the first 4 - 5 years children need a parent to raise them and instill your values and moral integrity. I'll have time to work toward what i want when the children go to school. 5 years is nothing in the grand scale of life.

A load of bull...

What makes British parents worse than any other nationality?
Nothing...

I'm british and my daughter comes before ANYTHING...
