artists on the rise or fall

Oh my god, man, don't even get me started. While I don't think the Smashing Pumpkins are on the fall, I do think they have plateaued and are kind of staying steady in mediocrity now. This isn't Billy's fault though. He always did what he wanted (Adore after one of the most rocking albums of the 90's...Machina after people said they wanted the rocking back). He said he had always hoped his fans were loyal enough to trust him in anything he tried. Zeitgeist was the first album where he listened to EXACTLY what the majority of fans wanted...mindless straightforward alternative rock. I enjoyed it just fine, but it really is the weakest album they have put out.

While I respect what he is doing now with the Teargarden EP's, I just can't listen to them like I used to now that even Jimmy is gone. The drums just don't have the OOMPH anymore, and what is really sad is I can tell these new songs would be holding their own with classic Pumpkins if it was Jimmy behind the kit.

I think that Billy Corgan is recognized as one of the great artist and composer's of the day, you dont have to have a popular album on the charts in order to gain respect as an artist, the Pumpkins are classic.

Right, I'm not gonna try to argue that the Blue Album isn't their finest, that's a given. But this latest saw them drop a lot more than on any of the previous albums imo.

Luckily I still have Beck for my 90s alternative rocker that still kicks ass. Every album he continues to amaze me.

I hear ya duga, I do agree that Zeitgeist is definitely not their best album but I heard a lot of people saying this album cashed them in and that it was infinitely poor. I disagree with that, and I just think they've never released a BAD record, I don't personally think they'll get any BETTER than they were back in the day but they'll never stoop below it.

Rise: No Age, The Thermals, Surfer Blood, Free Energy

Fall: Alkaline Trio, 311, The Hives, KoRn, System of a Down (done?), Incubus (done?), Bloc Party

I tried to only include banRAB that haven't been named...

The last album has gotten a lot of hate too, just look at its overall rating on RYM (it has gone up a bit actually, used to be below 3). I personally like it a lot and have actually connected with it more than with the first two, which I also really like. So yeah, they could be on the rise, but I wouldn't have said it myself as I have no idea where they'll go from here and whether I'll like it or not.

DooM's last album was good, but it wasn't his A game. New Madvilliain should be very impressive, but if this album is also disappointing then I will agree that DooM is on a downward slope.

i was hoping you were, but there were lots of others questioning my music tastes, that was just to clear things up a bit.

and the difference is that Jesse doesnt sound like a 6 yr old little girl. Justin does.
