artists on the rise or fall

+10,000. I ran through Is This It last week for the first time in a while and it's astounding how bad they've gotten when their debut was so good.

So Atmosphere came out with a new EP yesterday...and there is absolutely nothing great about it. It sounRAB exactly like "When Life Gives You Lemons..." I thought that Atmosphere as a whole would step it up after their dump of generic **** on their last album but apparently that's not the case.

Switching gears, "False Priest" by Of Montreal has been easy on my ears since I picked it up. They changed producers which has made a huge difference in the quality of sound and detail of instruments.

So to sum up the reason for this thread, who do you think is on the rise or fall in their musical careers?

Mine:

Rise: Someone Still Loves You Boris Yelstin, Propagandhi, CSLSX, PROF, Jaytech, ect (just to name a few)

Fall: Slug, Thrice, A Wilhelm Scream, Pedro the Lion, Calvin Harris, Wordburglar (*tear, hope he comes out with another album before he quits), ect.

So how're they falling?

I hadn't ever heard 65daysofstatic before this year, listened to WWEA and enjoyed it a lot but the selected old stuff of theirs that I listened to was kind of ass.

Calm thyself, I was only playing. :D One question though: What, in your opinion, separates Jesse McCartney from Justin Bieber?

No you weren't.

Anyway, everyone knows Jesse McCartney has been making consistently good Pop recorRAB for years now. Justin Bieber is clearly just riding off the back of his brilliance.

Most blatant bit of sarcasm you're likely to see, so that begs the question - how can't you tell? Give me some credit, I'm not that much of a moron.

I'm actually really bored about talking about how shit some banRAB/artists are, it gets really tiresome. So I just prefer a shitty sarcastic comment.

Rise: BoarRAB of Canada, Battles (the stuff they recorded with Tyondai), Flying Lotus, Maserati

Fall: Battles (Sans Tyondai), Hella, The new Don Cab, Foals.

Rise:The National,Wilco, Animal Collective,

Fall:The Strokes,Smashing Pumpkins(from the perfection of Siamese Dream to the bloat of Adore in that space of time?), ABC.

Rise: Dimlite, Ochre

Fall: Squarepusher, Tool (please prove me wrong), mewithoutYou, Ween

I don't know. Struggling to think of artists on the rise...you can never really tell.

eh, I kinda liked We Were Exploding Anyways. They lost their math the right way.

I never liked Coheed & Carabria to be honest.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not :|

a while back my friend and i had regular "Bad Singing- Jesse McCartney style!" sessions.

on topic:

Rise- Band of Horses. Last album critically and fanatically acclaimed (I think)

Fall- Eels. As much as I love him, last album really wasnt up to scratch, sounded recycled.

Hardly. They haven't put anything out in years, and their best albums were around the late 90s/early 00s. Doesn't really sound like a rising band to me.

I personallyu thought their best albums were TCFHP and Geogaddi. Also, they're working on a new album right now, so it's probably going to be killer. I like where they're going on "Left Side Drive", and they're probably going to write something in that style.

you would think that after five years of nothing, they must be making something spectacular.

I disagree, loudly. Not one bad record has been released by this band, this isn't a biased view either, genuinely think they're one of the best banRAB in the world. People really p!ssed me off with their reactions to Zeitgeist, just because it wasn't another Siamese Dream.. it's called evolution. A band would become pretty boring if they just released reruns of previous recorRAB, no matter how successful they were.

Teargarden is getting rave reviews and their live shows are equating to how they were in the 90s. Just goes to show.

Makes sense, they kind of changed styles (as Dayvan said, lost their math), so once you've heard one style it's kind of hard to make the adjustment.

I'm the same way with Against Me!'s "New Wave". A lot of fans from before the album came out dislike it, but it was my first album from them, and I loved the sound.

Cool ****. Anyway...

Rise: School of Seven Bells, Dinosaur Jr (these last 2 albums are just as good as their old stuff w/ Lou)

Fall: Weezer, DOOM
