Article: Family Guy Could end in a few years

At least he admits his show might have run it's course, unlike Matt Groening and James L. Brooks. I love The Simpsons and all, but fans have been begging to end the show for ten years now.

I's say that's a smart move on Seth's part. But I'm willing to bet he'd change his mind of The Cleveland Show doesn't do well and/or American Dad finally gets the axe. I mean, it's getting the death slot on Sunday evenings. Could FOX be looking for ways to get rid of it?

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Just a couple of years ago I was thinking about the fact that adult cartoons don't seem to end on their own. They are either still on the air or they get cancled. I think MacFarlane is making a smart move. Before actually reading the article I was going to point out that he's still got American Dad and The Cleavelan Show (though TCS still hasn't been broadcast, and AD is the inferior show to FG).

He admitted it was possible for a show - no, his show - to need to end.

Well, it impressed me. What with Groening still convinved The Simpsons is as great as it ever was, it's a refreshing attitude.

Yay! It's about time it ends.

Now that I've grown up I can't even laugh all of that much at the old episodes. It's just not that funny anymore.

No, you don't. *rimshot*

He left himself wide open for that one.

While I admire the courage to quit while one's ahead, he's not ahead. At least not creatively anymore.

Back when the show was revived in 2004/2005, he said he didn't want the series to go past a ninth or tenth season. You also have to remember he said "ideally" in the article. This doesn't mean Family Guy is going to end, Fox could offer him up a ton of money or he could decide he wants to continue it for a few more seasons. I see it ending around 2012 at the earliest.
To everyone crying wolf that American Dad is on its way to cancelation, might I remind you the show has been renewed through 2011ish(at the rate Fox is airing new episodes).

Guess all shows must come to an end, just sad to see it wouldn't make it past 10 seasons, or 150 episodes, or whatever.

EDIT: I would just like to point out that just because it is hard to come up with show ideas, that is no reason to give up. Look at South Park, in its 13 season, new episodes are made within just a week, and all the ideas are generally new. The thing that might give a show like this a boost is current events, due to quick production, so ideas can come from that.

Well, we've already had a few posts(mine included) that have kind of turned it into a "Simpsons Sucks!" thread. Yeah, I know the show has gotten bad, but I'm just sayin'.

Just to clarify once again, nowhere in the article did he say "Family Guy is ending on this date".

He's just mumbling about how he wants to end it in a few years. Things change everyday in the entertainment industry, so it could stick around longer than you think.

Yeah yeah yeah. :p

When something is your baby it's a lot harder to see the faults in it because you don't look at it the same way everyone else does. Also bear in mind that Seth isn't very fond of the first three seasons anymore. I think his standard for the show has changed. But like he's said he doesn't want the show to end up like the Simpsons. He could easily drag Family Guy out forever if he wanted to. As long as it made money I think FOX would let him. The fact that he doesn't want to is commendable.

I agree that every show has to come to an end. I'd hate to see Family Guy be around for as long as the Simpsons because the humour would not be as fresh as it is or was previously. ...And while we're on the subject of the Simpsons... I do enjoy the Simpsons, moreso, the earlier episodes; in fact I have the first four seasons on DVD because the episodes during the show's prime are both more memorable and enjoyable. My only gripe is that Groening has yet to release a collection of the Tracy Ullman shorts as some kind of commemorative anniversary collectors' item since the damn show has been on network television for quite some time already.

One less reason for me to watch Fox. Even if I am preferring American Dad nowadays.

At this point, if any other Fox show should end, it means very little to me.
