Arthur Season 11

The first 5 episodes of the 11th. season of Arthur (based on Marc Brown's Arthur books) are airing this week on most PBS Kids stations with the remaining 5 of Season 11 to be aired September 3-7, 2007.

11 seasons, wow. I remember watching the show back when I was younger. I can understand shows like Barney and Sesame Street lasting for 20-30 years, but what is it about Arthur that keeps it coming back year after year?

The reason this show is still on the air is because of it's writing. It's not like Sesame Street or Barney that feel obligated to force basic learning on children. I remember when I watched this when I was young that many of the stories I could relate to that self-taught moral responsibility.

Also, there are a lot of in-jokes in Arthur making references to The Sopranos, Beavis & Butthead, Ultraman, and even Richard Scary. So, if anything, I find the show much more enjoyable as an adult.

Man, I remember back in the day. It's like King of the Hill...you know it's there, but you don't really watch, you just channel surf and it happens to be on. It's a clever show most definitely. I think a lot of people thought it was cancelled eons ago.

I know my local Chicago area station aired on Monday and Tuesday the first 2 Season 11 Arthur episodes (Monday - "Swept Away/Germophobia" and Tuesday - "Arthur Sells Out/Mind Your Manners"), but for today - Wednesday, instead of "Buenas Noches, Vicita/Prunella Packs It In" the Season 10 Arthur episode "Desert Island Dish/The Secret About Secrets" aired instead. I hope I can find someone who has taped/recorded the Arthur episode "Buenas Noches, Vicita/Prunella Packs It In" on the web!

There have been other Arthur episodes with no Arthur appearance at all:
* "Prunella Sees the Light" (Season 7)
* "Fern Fern and the Secret of Moose Mountain"/"Thanks a Lot Binky" (Season 8)
* "Big Horns George" (Season 8)
* "My Fair Tommy" (with D.W. in it but not Arthur) (Season 9)
* "World Girls" (Season 10)

Also: Rumor has it my Chicago PBS Kids station may not air today's episode "Phony Fern/Brain's Shocking Secret" and air instead the Season 10 episode "Feeling Flush/Family Fortune". The 5th. Season 11 episode which is the last until the next 5 air in September is to be air Friday - "Baby Kate and the Imaginary Mystery/Strangers on a Train" - but will air Saturday morning on the Chicago PBS Kids station since the Friday afternoon block has "The Saddle Club" (it recently replaced the Friday only airings of Postcards from Buster on the Chicago PBS Kids station), followed by a 2 hour "Friday Palooza" mini marathon of a different PBS Kids show, and then a 1 hour "Kids Picks" results block.

Woe Arthur has been on since I was in sixth grade, and I just graduated college! Anyway I use to enjoy the show because it wasn't a cute cartoon like other little kids and it also wasn't too preachy. I think it started going downhill when they started to focus on D.W. and her preschool friends. It feels more like a preschool show now when it use to appeal to everyone.

I was right, the Chicago PBS Kids station for the 5 PM airing of "Arthur" showed the Season 10 "Feeling Flush/Family Fortune" episode instead of the Season 11 Arthur episode "Phony Fern/Brain's Shocking Secret". I hope someone has screenshots from the "Phony Fern" episode showing Fern dressed like the Agatha Christie character Hercule Peroit and the screenshots from that same "Phony Fern" episode showing what Fern's father (though I have seen Fern's mother in a few episodes) looks like. Hope you can post screenshots on rabroad!
