Is art to be simple or complex? I am making a sculpture, a mailman with a hat and I want him to have a ornament resting on his top hat. Also want to add butterflies who wings are stamps and ivy who fruits are stamps. The whole idea is for the postman to come out of the postal box. Would adding more and more small stuff distract the art? I thought art is to keep someone thinking and figuring out what it is for a certain time period and not simply look and move on. I want to add a heart in the chest of the postman and some flowers on the ivy but would this be to much distraction from the main concept: a postman coming out of the postal box?
