Art question: transferring an image (see added details)?

I`m trying to do a birthday present for my grandmother, who`s 76th birthday is coming up next month (October 22nd). I decided on a painted portrait of her when she was young because she loves art, doesn`t have many pictures/paintings around her condo, and it would help me greatly to practice and get better at painting.
So I called her and, so she did not suspect anything, I told her that I was doing a family tree project and needed a few pictures of her in her younger years. She gladly scanned a couple and sent them via email and they are in great quality.
Thing is, I had to blow up the picture quite a bit (it now covers 6 pages when put together, like a puzzle) and I need to transfer the 6 page photo to the canvas. except i already painted the background. i`m doing the painting in oil paint and yes i know it takes forever to dry but i find that after adding liquin and letting it dry outside on several nice days, it is perfectly dried.
so how can i transfer the 6 page photo to the canvas without harming the background i already painted? btw, i just need the basic outline of my grandmother, not the whole photo i printed out.

What about joining those pieces together, cutting out the outline of your grandmother, laying it on the background and making a light outline in paint?
