to go to the dance. it costs $250 for a rental fee and $150 for each hour of use. the students paid $1000 for the rental. how many hours did they rent the car ?
 
Rental fee is a one time fee, not per hour, so if they paid 250 rental fee, then that leaves 1000-250 = 750 dollars for the hourly rate.

if they paid 150 every hour, then 750/150 = 5 hours.
