These are questions are things in which i would like to know are available in enlistment contracts.

Would it be possible for me to defer college for one year for all training and then begin college in september while still being eligable for the SMP program (2 years if you want to keep all ur benefits i hear, correct?) or is there something against deferments? Also can i take ROTC classes while in the reserves without having to train with rotc ppl, b/c i still would with my reserve unit? And if things went well with rotc would the SMP and rotc contract together allow me to finish me degree in one shot? Any insight and possibly first hand experiance would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks

First Don't bother with the Reserves. The National Guard has more money for school and they will encourage you to take ROTC. If you join ROTC while in the Guard you can get your scholarship money from ROTC plus full tuition from the National Guard (this would basically be tuition on one side then room and board on the other side), plus the National Guard has a kicker for ROTC cadets, plus you get your drill pay for your one weekend a month two weeks a year. The Guard has more jobs than the reserves and you'll get more money.

Second in the Guard they have a lot of high school and college students. Your unit picks when you go to basic training and other schools. Chances are you won't go right away anyway. You can do at least your first semester of school while going to drill. If you want to and your unit kind find the slots you can do your training during what would be your second semester of school. There's no deferments necessary at one point. Its simply a student taking one semester off to fulfill his service (you would be considered active duty at this time). It's more likely that you would go during your summer break instead though.

Third everyone in ROTC is technically in the Reserves. That's why its called the Reserve Officer Training Corps. You would have to train with ROTC cadets. I don't know why that's a bad thing though.

Fourth yes it is expected that you will finish your degree in one shot. ROTC is only a four year program.
