i am think about enlist in the army for 4 years as a ranger that way i can go to ranger school and airborne school first and the transfer over to the marines corps. i was wondering if that possible and if my rank would transfer over with me

why would you ever want to??

going from special ops to conventional??

you can go do it, but i promise you, you will not follow through with it.
you either will go higher up the tier ladder, or you ETS, no transfer to USMC for you. I PROMISE YOU. Remember me 4 years from now. And you will be like: "oh shit that guy was right"

EDIT: ok, Now Im not going to be so nice. You obviously just want to do a bunch of cool stuff with no thought of duty to your country for the right reasons. Dont you dare waste the Regiments time and money on you. But not like it matters, you will never pass RIP.

There's no reason to do that. From what i understand you will start out no higher then an E-4 in the Marines.

Why on earth go to ranger school then the Marines? Just go Marine RECON...otherwise you lose rank and are not respected because you didn't go through basic...which is what makes you a Marine......or if you think your all that... then join the Navy and apply to the SEALS.

When your 4 years are up you can join the Marines (if they are taking prior service at the time) but your rank will NOT transfer. The USMC does not play well with others.

Also I agree that after being a Ranger you should not switch to the Marines but it's your life.

Good Luck.

If you became a Ranger why the hell would you want to go down to a Marine? I would just stay in the Army. If for what ever reason you want to leave the Rangers, go Airborne infantry (82nd, 173rd, etc.)... just as good as Marines.

If with this crazy idea you even make it into Regiment, after 4 years your opinion of every conventional force will be so low that you would never even entertain this dumb thought. It honestly is retarded. You will meet former marines in Regiment who crossed over to actually be high speed that will never stop laughing at you. In regiment your peers are Delta and Seals. Almost every deployment it's that nice little trinity. And you would leave that behind to be a marine? That's priceless.

Why would you want to do that? You minus well stay in the Army after you have been in it all that time. Once your in the Army you in in the Army and you must not take the army values serious. LOYALTY,DUTY,RESPECT,SELFLESS SERVICE,HONOR,INTEGRITY,PERSONAL COURAGE. Think about it...

You can not join the army as a Ranger. First you must be a soldier but to answer your question you would be making a foolish choice unless you don't mind starting at the bottom. By then you will be a Sergeant or Staff Sergeant and why would you want to go back at being a Private?
