OK if someone joins the U.S. army at age 17 can they cancel ? or better yet if your under contract can you get kicked from the army? and what if you have been arrested and a torn muscle in your leg and you inform them are they still supposed to send you out or can they rip your contract?

To join at 17 you have to have a parent sign for you. If you have a police record and medical problems that you failed to disclose at MEPS, then you certainly will get out of the Army, only after you have been court martialed and have spend up to three years in prison and fined $10,000.00.

Lying to Get Into the Military is a Felony
Let's get straight to the point. Knowingly giving false information or withholding required information on any recruiting form is a criminal offense (When the information would have made an individual ineligible to enlist, or would have required a waiver to enlist). It's not a misdemenor, it's not the same as getting a speeding ticket. It's a felony offense, punishable by a $10,000 fine and three years in prison. If you lie to get into the military, you are committing a felony. It's that simple. If you get away with it long enough to actually enlist, and are caught later, it's also a "military offense." You can be prosecuted for a violation of Article 83 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), which states:

"Any person who--

(1) procures his own enlistment or appointment in the armed forces by knowingly false representation or deliberate concealment as to his qualifications for that enlistment or appointment and receives pay or allowances thereunder; or

(2) procures his own separation from the armed forces by knowingly false representation or deliberate concealment as to his eligibility for that separation; shall be punished as a court-martial may direct."

Well, getting kicked out isn't much of a problem if you want; there are lots of ways to do that. As far as being 17, you don't have the legal capacity to contract, so it probably isn't enforceable. If you want out, go see an attorney.

you can cancel your contract up until the second you leave for basic.
if you get injured or in trouble to a point where it would have prevented you from signing up int he first place or are suffering from it currently then your contract can be voided

Ok I just want to add for all of you living room lawyers out there that if you sign up before you are eighteen (18) you have to have your parents sign permission to do so. Legally a contract is not binding for a minor under the age of 18 but with the legal guardian signature it becomes a legal and binding contract.

There are many ways to get kicked out of the Army. The goal is not to join and decide to find out for you will be briefed to death on ways to leave the Army a very unhappy person.

If you injure yourself in DEP and no longer meet the standards of Medical Fitness as outlined in AR 40-501, they will medically disqualify you for active duty and you will stay home and that will be the end of it.
