Hi there. Im 17, 6'2'' and im 267lbs. My dream is to become an Army Soldier. I lost about 60 lbs and im down to 267. I still have a long way to go but i am determined. I went to the recruiting station today and they had me take an arms test for practice. My recruiter told me that at MEPS, they have males do 12" steps. At the station, i did an 18" step. I did this for a 4:38 minutes. He said it was good for your first time considering he seen people only last for 2 minutes. Push ups is what screwed me. My stomach is where most of my weight is so when i get into the pushup position, my stomach is like dead weight and pulls down on me. I managed to do 3 push ups, after that, I tried to do more but my arms just couldnt lift me up. I didnt do any crunchs and my recruiter told me to work on that tonight. Try to do as many push ups as possible. Im also going to work on my pushups in standard position and once i cant do any more, ill go on my knees and keep going. I have protein powder and ill consume lots of that to help me somewhat be more prepared because they are going to test me again in 2 days. Do you think the protein will make any difference? What if i cant make make the 13 push ups? Oh btw, since im 17, im going into the delayed entry program so i wont ship to basic untill July of 2010 if that helps any. Any advise please? Im very embarassed and discouraged that i can only do 3 push ups.

Hey man, don't be embarrassed or discouraged, you are trying to serve your country and that is noble and brave. I am in the Marine Corps, just give it all you've got during basic and you'll make it just fine. As far as the protein, I would not take that. Protein is good for building muscle, but you want to be on a strict workout program while you are taking it, or else it reverses on you and becomes fat. I've seen it happen a bunch of time. Just work on your main things you will be tested on, do them until you can't anymore and just stay motivated and keep you eyes on the prize. Good luck
