armpit tendons

My arm began hurting a couple weeks ago not due to any injury that I can think of. A few days later, I realized that when I raised my arm, something was sticking out under my arm pit in my left arm. It was also painful and tight when I raised my arm. After going to the doctor, who had never seen this problem before (but concluded it was a tendon), I was given a steroid shot and 10 days of oral steroids. I am on day 8 and while the pain has lessened, the tendon is still just as tight and there is some pain that remains. I was sent for blood work and another test to make sure I don't have a clot. Do you have any suggestions or thoughts.

the fact that this creates pain and restriction when you try and raise your arm would most likely be a tendon/rotator cuff issue of some kind. just wanted to let you know tho that you do not have any real tendons within that arm pit area itself, they run along the outside of the armpit. this almost sounds like some level of actual tear in the tendon that runs underneath the armpit. there is the rotator "cuff' which is what makes that shoulder so mobile. it is very likely and common to actually have cuff issues. just a very common type of injury that people seek help for(according to my ortho). i just went thru a rotator cuff repair this past feb becasue i completly tore that very top tendon that runs from the top of the shoulder to the neck area? i also partially tore the one that runs directly underneath it too. the best possible way for you and your doc to really see just what this thing is that is sticking out(could be one half of a torn tendon)would be to simply have an MRI done on that shoulder. its the easiest most simple way to see that whole area. this is where all my damage revealed itself.
i knew i had something wrong there that actually stemmed initially from an injury i did while lifting way back in 1989 that just tore little by little over the years til it just tore on me completely last nov. it will actually be one year tomorrow that this happened. could not even lift up the purse i was trying to lift off my fridge that morning after i pulled up and just felt something let go. then the pain popped in.

just obtaining that MRI would save you alot of hassle and possibly alot of time doing some level of PT that just will not progress if there is indeed some type of tear there. what you are possibly feeling could be one end of a torn tendon. just one theory. but you do need to get that look inside just to do the right things and keep away from doing anything that could make things worse ya know? you just should not have what you have right there so it does need further evaluation just to see what it actually is. i would seriously push your doc for that MRI. it will just show alot of the structures and any possible tears of other problems that can arise within that rotator cuff area. tears in the tendons there are just a very common type of injury that can happen either suddenly or over time with cumulative damage. i do hope this isn't too bad for you. please keep me posted on just what you find out,K?
