What a film :D this film has it all ,scare factor,hero worship,fun ,singing,happy ,sad:o and Love .
The visual affects are also stunning ,it just leaves you with a feel good facter .

What your best film and why ??

Not one the 'acclaimed' best movies ever, however on a personal level I can't think of one that beats anything in my collection.

It is certainly sooooo much better then the copy-cat film Deep Impact, which focused more on the science then on the story.

Some movies that defy these rules :
Naked Lunch.
Videodrome.
Tetsuo (Bodyhammer)
I love movies and to be honest my tastes are very wide and varied
in the comedy section I would reccomend

Top Secret (ridiculously OTT spoof)
Little Shop of Horrors (The re-make with Rick Moranis)
Blind Date ( Bruce Willis in his first leading role)

Action

Leon (I have often been told I remind people of Leon)
Alien (a very modern incarnation of the 50's B movie creature feature)
The Bourne movies
Sin City

Horror

1408
Planet Terror (a truly OTT movie that features a woman with a machinegun leg replacement :D )
Evil Dead
Patrick (one of the many Oz movies that I love)

I suppose if I had to pick "A" movie that I have watched probably more than any other it would have to be
The Rocky Horror Picture Show .. :D:cool:

Another couple worth a look

Chopper (based on the life of Mark Brandon "Chopper" Read http://www.chopperread.com/ )
Braindead (strong stomach required)
Whale Rider (Aboriginal story)
Nighthawks (an early Stallone role)
Hitcher (1986 version not the shitty re-make)
Wanted Dead or Alive.

and for that extra feel good factor I would have to choose one of my all time fave movies CHAMPIONS ! it's all the more impressive because it is a true story.

Elephant Man
and
Whistle Down the Wind (1961)

Well - I'll disagree with you there. Deep Impact was more of a human interest story - i.e. the characters weren't cardboard cut outs - and the ending was a lot more moving (and credible once you accept that an asteroid was about to hit the earth).

Plus Tea Leone, Robert Duvall Vanessa Redgrave and Morgan Freeman (the main actors in Deep Impact) could act Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck off the screen in their sleep!

Special effects were good & having Liv Tyler in it helped, but wasn't enough to make it the best film ever.

It's a good bit of mindless entertainment, but the best film ever? Hardly, not even the best film of the month of it's release...:D

There are hundreRAB of movies that are better (IMO) but that's all dependant on taste and preference.
Films I believe are better are:
Bladerunner
Blue Velvet
Class of 1984
12 Monkeys
Three Godfathers

I can't really put forward any one movie for the accolade of best movie ever simply because each movie has it's own appeal , I have a preference for the weird and bizarre so they rate highly for me.
It is a personal thing just as much as our favourite fooRAB or our prefered music style.
Armageddon isn't a bad movie but I did find it a bit formulaic ,
Threat + unlikely heroes + big effects + happy ending with bittersweet touch.
All been done before really.

I really, really dont want to be rude, but no doubt it will come out that way, but I dont think I want to have a discussion about my favourite films with someone who considers their favourite film the Hollywood blockbuster Armageddon.

It's not that I dont respect your opinion, it's just that we probably live in two very different worlRAB.

A personal bugbear here, but when you said 'best' surely you meant favourite. Nobody can deny you your right to think some bit of Hollywood tosh is your favourite - some of my most rewatched films are utter tripe too - but when you say best it must demand some degree of objectivity, which means opting for something that'll stand the test of time, something a bit more, shall we say, important.

And I'd disagree that any film cannot be placed in one of those 7 categories. Naked Lunch is the journey to hell and back film. Videodrome was slay the monster with a bit of rebirth thrown in, and Tetsuo was slay the moster, or at least it was for the entire second half.
