yes, communism is a failed system and will not work anywhere i can think of - especially america - there is a huge differene between socialism and communism though (feel free to look up the definitions) - both candidates hold socialist ideals (i.e. mccain being in favor of the patriot act while obama has stated that the government should have less power (although both voted for it as did most senators, this was largely due to an enormous document being shoved in their face on the day of the vote with hundreds of pages of revisions from what they had previously read) - also the patriot act has been something that they have been trying to get through since the mid 90s so it really has nothing to do with 9/11 as many would have you believe - you want to talk about socialism, lets talk about warrantly wiretaps, suspension of habeus corpus, etc. - with 6 of the last 8 years having FULL republican rule, socialism to some extent has existed far beyond "paying taxes" or "speed cameras" or other things that some may consider socialist
spreading the wealth involves giving tax breaks to small businesses that make under 250k per year IN PROFIT - this effects less than 5% of small businesses and in order for a business to turn that kind of profit, the owners are likely millionaires
one thing i've noticed in this election (of course this is just anecdotal from personal experience, but) i've noticed that all the wealthy people i know who made it on their own rather than being given a fortune, winning the lottery, etc. are much more charitable and i'd say a majority support obama - just look at hollywood as a key example - actors/actresses have to make it on their own in an incredibly competitive field yet they are overrun by democrats
look up socialism - obama isn't proposing turning our country into england and it takes more than slightly higher taxes on the top 1% to be "socialist" - travel to some places in europe to see true socialism (and guess what, pretty much everyone is happier - but i'm no fan of socialism - fuck the government being involved in my business)
the most idiotic thing you can do is start a war while lowering taxes - this just doesn't make sense - we cannot continue the trend of low taxes as great nations have crumbled, not because of their military, but because of their economy (i.e. soviet russia)
ok so i'm ranting a bit here - lets get back to the question - lets say a business does take in over 250k in profit per year and obama is elected - this business is most likely selling products to individuals making under 250k per year - under our current economy, businesses are struggling and people are finally realizing that they need to live within their means - if the working class were to receive a tax cut (because in all reality there is no more middle class, there used to be the upper middle class which has split into the upper class and the lower/middle class which is basically the same as the working class (and of course there will always be the poor)) - anyways, if the obama camp taxes fairly, these individuals will be able to buy more - it is somewhat of a trickle down effect which is often looked down upon, but when the economy is in such turmoil, we need to cut spending and bring in more tax $$ (which obama is trying to make a little more fairly)

this is hardly socialism - also offering government healthcare is not socialism so long as it is not mandatory and there is no fine for people who choose to use a different insurance carrier (and obama has said this specifically in the last debate - despite how many times mccain brings up some tax on people who choose to use their own healthcare)
and none of these tax breaks come to people who don't have a job, btw
change is just another slogan - even mccain picked up on it for awhile - mccain is the maverick and the "straight talk express" even though he has changed his opinion far too many times for that to be true
these are just slogans...obama's idea of change is change from our current leadership - voting for mccain (who has admittedly voted with bush over 90% of the time - also admittedly more than most other republicans) wouldn't be much of a change from our current leadership - the slogan of change is more that we need a change in power, a change in policy, a change of how we're viewed around the world (which IS very important - anyone that says differently is a fucking idiot who likely doesn't travel and is usually the type of person who says "fuck france - french fries? fuck that - these are freedom fries" even though france is an ally, gave us the statue of liberty, and if you've ever been there, they like americans, they just dislike george bush (and they are in love with obama) - having world support is not only important in case of war, but also for people who enjoy travelling
but as i said, don't even bother looking at the tax proposals - the largest tax on the american people in the last 8 years has been the devaluation of the dollar - this seems directly proportional to how much gas costs (and guess what gets food/commodities to your grocery store? a truck paying up the ass prices for diesel which in the end ends up costing the consumer more)
ask away - i'm stoned and just rambling - pineapple purps ftmfw
