They try to sell it to you because it works with so many people and it's a lot of extra profit for them. Even if something breaks and you bought the extended warranty a lot of people would simply forget or not be able to find the paper work and the store still wouldn't have to fix or replace it. Yes, it's a scam but it's a successful scam unfortunately.
