In the past I have been making statements regarding the Bible, that have basically covered all the writings of the Bible. What upset me was the fear, damnation, hell and anti-christ questions that would surface and the interpretations that would try and bring fear into peoples hearts regarding what was felt they SHOULD be doing to live a loving and spiritual life.
Then I answered a question last week, once again stating how I followed the teachings of Jesus, and did not read the Bible any more. Someone sent me an e-mail and asked me something like - where did I read about Jesus' life if it wasn't in the Bible. That started me thinking. I was making an overall blanket statement about the Bible, yet there were Psalms and quotes that I accepted, including the life of Jesus.
Then I started reading Deepak Chopra's -- THE THIRD JESUS - and that stopped me in my tracks. Here was this wonderful author, who studies the Bible more than most people do. Here was a man whom I had admired for years and read nearly every one of his books, quoting passages from the Bible, to support his writings on the subject of Jesus.
I do not want a closed mind, on any subject, as I want to open myself to all possibilities. How could I accept some things in the Bible and yet not others.
I feel that the answer is, that I accept the love and positive words that are written therein, but I do not want to accept the negative, fearing, judgemental words that are also written there.
So, I am backing off my previous statements, and I do not mind doing so. Anything that will open my mind up to more love and more understanding of why we are here on this earth, I am going to accept with open arms.
For those of you who feel Deepak Chopra is a negative in the Spiritual world, East or West, I beg to differ.
I thank him for showing me that Jesus, (like Buddha and many others,) is mentioned and quoted in many ways, by many people, from the past and now in the present.
I am understanding more about the bible, about Jesus than I have before, since everything that he states makes sense.
I will carefull pick my words from now on, so that I do not react negatively,to what the Bible has to tell us. I however, will look at the words in the same way Deepak Chopra does, with unconditional love, understanding and deep spiritual insight.
Thank you Deepak and others that have shown me a more loving way to deal with negative situations./
