Are you obese?

I was quite shocked at age 49 to find out that by waist measurement I would be classified as obese (more than 40 inches or 102cms for men, 35inches for women). I got my act together and am now down to 90cm or 35 inches and going strong. I feel fitter and healthier than I have for a long time, I feel more confident, alert and energetic. All these "feelings" tell me that my body is responding positively to a more acceptable size and weight - I am not lean or skinny by any standards. Because of this I am a strong opponent of Fat Acceptance - where we all say anyhting goes. You cannot have the same quality of life, certainly not in the long term, in an obese body that you can have in a fit and healthy body. And I am not referring to the emotional scars caused by the social unacceptability of obesity, I am talking about doing stuff with your life. Walking in the woods, swimming in the sea or just playing with the grandkids. People say life is too short to deny ourselves the pleasure that tempt us daily, but I say life is too short to live in a body that prevents you from enjoying the REAL pleasures of life. Having said that I realise there are people with medical or emotional problems that prevent them from correcting their lifestyles, but they are in the minority. The rest of us have just become too self indulgent and sedentary. I am winning the war on fat and it feels great, so lets encourage others to do the same.
