Are you more likely to pick up a book written by a male author?

I just noticed I have probably read about 10 books by female authors and four of them by the same author. I read A LOT...anywhere between 25-50 a year depending on what is happening. Out of maybe....250 total books I have read... 240 have been male. It's not that I pick mostly male books I just grab whatever catches my eye. I know some people who won't dare touch a novel written by a female... but I'm a girl myself! Anyways getting to the point is it because there might be more books written by men?

Well, i've noticed that females write more ''Fabio Style'' novels, and i really don't like those...
For me, i'm more into horror and biography, and i've only seen a few female authors on that field.
Maybe somebody who was more into romance would be more likely to choose a female author?
Well, hope i helped and that i make sense. =)

That's an interesting question. I never really thought about it until you asked. I read a lot also. I think it's even between male and female authors. I read both fiction and nonfiction books. It seems like most of the fiction books I read are by females and the nonfiction by males. Not sure if any one gender writes more of fiction or nonfiction.

more likely pick up book written of female author. less heavy, contain less content

i gotta say it's mainly female. I've never actually noticed that before, maybe i should start reading more books by males.

Of course there are more books written by men. Back in the olden days when monks would be penning classics in languages nobody understood women would be taking care of children. Women weren't published very often because of sexism. Some authors you think are males really aren't (like George Elliot)! I don't care who a book is written by as long as it's good. But yes, there are WAY more books written by males than by females, because men have been writing since writing began and women have been writing since...i don't know? The late 1800's? Probably. Of course there's those women who penned books of the Bible, Esther, Judith and Ruth, but the late 1800's is when it was becoming more popular.

Accually I've never noticed before...

But I've also been reading alot more male than female book's...

I think Ive read about 346 male books and only about 24 female..

Thats Creepy. o___o
