Are you for a Constitutional Amendment banning burning the flag?

And in what way would such a ban be worded? "Insufficient love of the state", "Insulting to Heroes of the state?", "Offensive to VoR'S sensibilties?"

So nice to see theocratic facism is alive and well in Hunter's household.

However, as I said before, most people are smart enough to realise when their civil liberties are being eroded by things such as flag-burning amendments.

What you don't get is that a Constitutional ammendment would take away value from the flag. And why a flag would be arrogant I'll never understand, I thought that was supposed to be a bad thing. And who ever heard of a flag having feelings anyway. This more describes the feeling that the symbol creates in people looking at it. This is very well written, let's protect our flag. Not by banning desecration of it, but by showing that it doesn't need protection to instill these feelings in a true American.

A fitting quote. From "The American President"

"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You've gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose worRAB make your blood boil, who's standing center-stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the land of the free."

Some of us especially my shipmates at the FRA and the American Legion believe this is and important issue too........As I said many brave men died defending that flag..........Maybe even your brother in nam...........

No one can claim higher ground here, only because you served. Many of us love the flag for the unity those fifty stars represent; we are all Americans.

Would you please attempt to get a grip on reality??!!! Your meglamania is absolutely entertaining, though.

The lesson (again); repeat after me:

"A different opinion or life experience than my own is not immoral or evil. The whole wide world does not have to look like, act like, think or even like all the same stuff I do."

You served in the military, huh? With your level of xenophobia I find it astonishing you leave your own house - ever. I mean there is whole world of people out there different than you.

Because a bunch of Liberals disagree with the war does not make it so.........If all Americans thought like you President Bush would not have got re elected with 60,000,000 votes and a 3,000,000 margin...........

You are on the wrong side of hsitory my friend, but what else is new?

You can trivulize it all you want Jito Bear.......I will never understand if this country is so bad why do people that think that stay here........

Well Ted Bundy is like you.....He like to murder the innocent, defenseless in our society...........

I don't know what my pro life stance has to do with it but whatever we know where you stand on the issue......

Were what? in actual combat........I guess the government thought I was because counting the time I was off the coast on Navy ships I collected 46 months of combat or hostile fire pay.........Oh and I was awarded a Navy Unit Commedation, A Viet Nam Service and a Viet Nam Campaign Medal so I hope you don't do like someone else in this forum and try an minimize the contributions a lot of men and women made during the Viet Nam Conflict.........

I really could care less what you think.........

I don't know why you are not able to separate the two.........If both men served honorably and did their job while they were in the service then they both should get credit for that........

What they did after they got out of the military is a different story.........

I have a friend who was awarded the Navy Cross for his service.......After he got out of the m ilitary he got into some trouble and spent some time in prison......

This does not minimize what he did to receive his Navy Cross while he was in the Navy........

No, I never said that all support people were not worth squat. I said that REMF pukes are not worth squat and that there is a differenc ebetween being ont he front line and being on a secured ship,a nd you do not seem to be able to distinguish it.

In all your years in the service, did younever realise that when people called you an REMF it ws not a comment directed soley at your position, but your attitude as well??

Yep, thats me, jelous of shopkeepers and mechanics. What could a person POSSIBLY be jealous abotu in that? As far as the hard work required, it is hard work unloading trucks at wal mart. So what? That was your job. You chose that job, and it is no harder or easier than the civilian sector. If you have limited skills in civilian life, you have to work long hours at crappy jobs in order to make a living. Such is life.

If anything, you seem to be jealous of those who have actually fought to defend the country (or whatever BS political agenda those in power are pushing at the moment). That would explain why you constantly claim to be one when you are obviously and by your own admission NOT.

I voted no.

And anyone you ask will be fairly advanced in age. The last war of defense, to save ourselves and our flag, was WW2. And the Marines at Iwo are long dead. After that, military deaths from other than natural causes and non-combat vocational statistics were due to our intervention and/or aggression.

When endangered as a symbol of our freedom by direct destructive attack from a sovereign nation will ill intent, our flag is to be defended at all costs. IMO, WW2 was the last time that happened.

When not defending ourselves, burning the flag shows disrespect. The voice of a citizen. As another poster pointed out, outlaw it and you've eliminated another avenue of free speech and then flag burning will really pick up in popularity as a protest symbol. TV news will be forced to provide coverage, celebrities like free press and don't mind getting involved, and hopefully the young and mothers will again rise up to voice their opinion about what a crummy deal we're leaving them and their children.

You won't understand that, to you protestors are on an intellectual fear level with liberals and terrorists, but Dono will.

Besides the obvious services our military performs to defend us as a nation it also provides a place for people, who would otherwise not function well in civilian society, a place to live, work and retire. This is no indictment towarRAB our brave children who fight and die everyday, just an observation towarRAB "lifers" I picked up while doing my time serving my country.

Where else could people like this go? They don't always fit into society very well. (I think that is very plain to see in regard to the aforementioned. )

Support our troops but take pity on the "lifers." Even our enlisted troops can tell a short timer from a lifer. Society misfits, many of them. But NOT all of them.

desecrate, profane, outrage, violate

violate the sacred character of a place or language; "desecrate a cemetary"; "violate the sanctity of the church"; "profane the name of God"

Again, one cannot "desecrate" a flag, since it is not a religious object. And that is an interesting question about flags from other countries, Wez.

I think a well conceived and delivered insult is not a bad thing. I enjoy a good one even when I am on the receiving end, the same with sarcasm. The problem is that many just resort to name calling, which requires no skill or imagination and does little for the writer's creditability. I must admit that some posters (one in particular) tempt an insult with the content of their posts but most of the time I just ignore them. I enjoy a good argument and some that I have argued with the most have been very good frienRAB of mine. It would really be boring if every one agreed with me. They would be correct, of course, but it would still be boring.
