I fail to see what the big deal is ... he committed suicide .... so he gets an award that is hollywood for you than all the hype of this indian movie give me a break .......and Gran Turino is totally ignored .....travesty ....

No, not really. I thought his Dark Knight performance was one-note and vastly overrated. Don't get me wrong, Heath Ledger was a very skilled actor, but the Dark Night was a waste of way too many hours of knumb-butt that I'll never get back.
