Are YOU an "animation snob"?

Do you refuse to watch a show based entirely on the design of the characters?

Do you nitpick little details in cartoons?

This is not a thread to start any arguments, but it is a thread for people to come and state why they consider themselves to be "animation snobs"

I, personally, am not one. If a show is entertaining and keeps my attention i can overlook little flaws. But I know theres a few people here that those same little flaws can throw them completely off the show.
 
Krypto the Superdog is entertaining and all, but the main reason I like the cartoon is because it has that retro look of the 1960's Hanna-Barbera era.
 
I wouldn't refuse to watch a show because it has bad animation or character designs, but it would bring my enjoyment of the show down.
 
It's not so much weather the aesthetic is "good" or "bad" too me, just weather or not I find it appealing.

Also, how much I nitpick the animation depends. Is just a pair of characters talking? I really don't care if all we see are the lips flapping. Is the big fight scene relying entirely on still frames with the camera shaking? That's when I get annoyed.
 
I've actually learned to suppress some of my more snobbishness towards cartoons; i.e. if you overanalyze what you watch, you eventually won't be able to enjoy ANYTHING. Which defeats the purpose of entertainment.
 
I regularly watch The Spectacular Spider-Man on a regular basis despite its animation style not fitting the tone of the show. I used to watch Powerpuff Girls on occasion. So I guess I'm not an animation snob.
 
Well, not yet at least. But I do get on a little rampage when ppl place statements “Cartoon are always for kids, it was in the beginning”, “Cartoons are never for adults”, “No one will ever take animation seriously”, “Cartoon should only be for kids”, “Only a small chunk of ppl like cartoon, but the whole world doesn't”.

Yeah, I get angry by that. I just wish I can prove them all wrong that not all cartoons are for kids.
 
Ehhh...well, that is what you have to look at the whole time. Kind of a big part of animation.

Like I'll give most shows a chance but design can be a gigantic barrier for me, yeah.


Yeah, I've actually noticed myself doing this more lately. Ever since I started coming to this site actually :p

I know I probably shouldn't. But I do.
 
I'm not sure if this would fall into the "snob" category. I never gave Home Movies a chance in the early episodes (or Dr. Katz at all) simply because of the squigglevision. Not because it was ugly, but because it was nauseating.
 
While those two shows are awesome, I can see how the Squigglevision can ruin the enjoyment of them. I remember one kid growing up saying that the "animation in that show, makes me sick, literally." Yeah, I can barely watch an episode of Season 1 Home Movies, anything past Season 2, I can watch, even if the Flash in it is basic.
 
Yes, I'm definitely what you would consider a snob (though I'd probably use the term... critic) Art doesn't really affect my decision unless it's just flat out terrible and uninspired(like crude geometric shapes similar to Fairly Odd Parents or Dexter's Laboratory). I may dislike it, but I tend to focus more on the writing than anything else.

I definitely nitpick things. I think analyzing what people do wrong is far more beneficial than what they do right, since it will help them learn from their mistakes for the future (though I'm not so egotistical as to actually think the writers are going to read my thoughts and actually care about what I'm saying) Of course, it depends on the show. A show that at least attempts to try to be half-way serious I'll nitpick and critique. If it's something like Dora the Explorer, well, I won't bother. Both because I don't watch those types of shows and it's not trying to be anything more than what it is.
 
I'm not really an animation slob myself. I'm normally accepting to all cartoons and Anime. But whatever I don't like, I just rant about after I've seen it.
 
In regards to animated feature films, i'm a Disney/Pixar fan only. Those are the only animated movies that I will personally choose to watch or buy. I saw Shrek only b/c I was at a friends house and they wanted to watch it, wasn't a fan of it in any way, shape, or form. Just a personal choice that I stay true to Disney.

I do have the Simpsons movie on blu ray. I tend to think of animated tv shows that have a feature film somewhere down the line as an extension of the tv series, nothing more.
 
I'm kind of similar. Not so much in blind loyalty to Disney/Pixar, I just think they generally put out the most quality. I'll check out anything Disney makes and also the less traditional stuff like Coraline, but I tend to steer clear of the stuff Dreamworks and Nickelodeon puts out. I realize its all technically aimed at kids but they're really good about making sure everyone in the theater knows this is for six-year-olds.
 
Not really. Usually when I don't like a show, it's something I judged on it's individual merits.Not to mention, I wouldn't like some Hanna-Barbera shows if I had a problem with slow, limited animation. So HB was cheap, so what? Granted I don't like everything they put out, but they seem to get so much flack for not having Disney/WB money considering what they accomplished.

Everything doesn't have to have state of the art animation for me to like it. Cartoons would be pretty boring if everything had to look or move a certain way.
 
Some of Ralph Bakshi's films are "Meh" for me. Personally, I think some of his animated films are just pushing for attention.

I was kinda looking at some of WB, MGM, and or Disney short films.
I think those shorts are little more adult than...Fritz the Cat.
 
Maybe. For example, half the reason why I've shied away from Iron Man: Armored Adventures is because I hate the animation and art style. I also have to dock Justice League some points because of its stiff animation.
