This evening I was bored. No one else was home and I had the TV remote to myself (a dangerous thing indeed). There were endless reality shows (yawn), repeats, weird stuff that was not of interest to me, etc.
So, I chose to view a few of the news channels. Firstly, I turned on FOX and watched a few minutes and then, in disgust, I turned to MS-NBC and also got sickened.
Each station favors a specific party. MS-NBC was ripping the Republicans viciously to shreds and, you guessed it, FOX was doing the same thing to the Democrats. CNN was adding their share of digs and I have to admit when I listen to NPR that I hear a pretty liberal viewpoint on things while if I turn to certain AM radio stations I hear Rush Limbaugh and people of that nature.
One could see quite clearly that if one were to watch or listen to any of these broadcast mediums all the time you could get yourself very angry and truly believe whatever it is you were hearing. No wonder people here on YA are ripping each other to shreds all the time as well, we have the ability to do this anonymously as well - which makes it even easier to say nasty things.
So, I sat there and I wondered. I turned from one station to another and these people all hate each other. What I was viewing was a media competition and these angry people are feeding on hate and we the people are the victims of this hate - aren't we?
If you watch one or both of these channels don't you think that you are getting overly angered by what is going on? Do you think the opposing channel is egging people on and the channel you watch is 100% right all the time? Truly, do you think it's 100% and ALL the time?
With politicians being "on the take" and lying to us and being motivated by their personal self-interests instead of clearly representing "We the People" and these vicious news channels sticking their very opinionated noses into the equation, are we the people actually the ones getting shafted? Are these news channels healthy for anyone? ABC with their recent Obama-infomercial on a national health plan should be particularly ashamed. When questions are hand-picked and no opposing views are being broadcast, what is an American citizen who wants to know what is truly happening to do?
Are we victims to a mass produced hate mongering mass of people who are pitting us against each other.
What do you think of it all?
I really am trying my best to see both sides clearly. I registered myself as an Independent a couple of months ago in disgust. I am so turned of by the partisanship that is going on. I think we are all victims to it.
Are there ANY politicians out there nowadays who can cross the isle and actually work with the other side and not act like a stubborn kindergarten student who isn't getting their own way? I think not. Do you think there are any honest people?
I'm not looking for the usual answers that are Bush did this and Obama is doing that.... aren't we all tired of that stuff? I've heard all of that, again and again from you people here. What I am looking for is some insightful thoughts about how we the people can fix this mess and get our country back.
Are you as tired of this as I am? No matter what side you are on, can't you see that perhaps for once the other side could have a good idea now and then and that we are all on the same team instead of just liberals and conservatives? I'm angry, I just want my country back. I want to feel proud to be an American and, lately, no one is making me proud any longer, yes I said it no one.
