Are U.S. enemy combatants unconstitutional?

How can the U.S government declaring enemy combatants be constitutional if the U.S. Constitution specifically bans Bill of Attainder laws? Enemy combatants do not get a trial, and bill of attainder laws imprison people without a trial. The Constitution prohibits bill of attainder laws. Was there a court ruling on this? If so, what was their reasoning?
