I took it to the shop and the guy told me that the problems are
1.) P0440 evap control system problem
2.)P0441 evap system purge flow low
3.)P0446 evap vent solonoid problem

I asked him for how much it would cost to fix this, but he told me it would he would have to check it out and that would cost 100 bucks.

Is that right for someone to charge 100 dollars just to check out the actual problem?

Has anyone had to replace these parts?

He told me it's wear and tear and that it's NOT from misuse. He said it's something that has to be fixed when their is a problem

The car has has between 100k to 106k miles
my car doesn't have a timing belt. If it's a wear and tear deal, how is Toyota more reliable?
Do you just have a better chance of getting a defective car with American?
NO the problems I had on my car is WEAR and TEAR related from what I been told not about how you care for it.

toyota sucks (atleast 96 and up)
this one guy owns a toyota avalon, and since he bought the car new in 13 short years he had put 26,400 in to the car, and now it needs a third engine, electrical work, and suspension work, given it has 250k on it.

well, the trucks are decent, most American cars are worse though, honda, a choice few of dodge and volvo all the way.

by the way, evap codes are bothersome, as they almost never effect the running of the car, its just emmisions controll, usually just a cracked hose or bad purge valve, most cars get this, even my volvo :)
