Are those sand storms a common occurrence in the Beijing region?

The prevailing wind in Beijing is from the north west, which takes it over desert areas.

Should there be a strong storm, then this can result in a dust storm which carries the dust on towards Beijing.

Currently, the Chinese government is working on this, devloping a green wall to protect the east coast (the green wall is an area of forrests and other green areas that should reduce the dust storms).
