Like, is it possible to mabey one day not have parties and just have people running. i know its unlikely but i still want to know.

There are lots of third party candiates that run, as well as independents. You just don't see as much of them because they don't have the same sort of support or budget that the major party candidates have.

No. Remember Ross Perot? His run in 1992 was as an independent candidate (not to be confused with the American Independent Party). I'm actually a bit surprised that Ron Paul isn't on the ballot as an independent this time.
All you need to get on the ballot is enough signatures in each state. This is much more easily accomplished if you associate with a party.

It really doesn't matter either way. Only two parties are currently viable, with the third runner up (Independent Party) being faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar behind.

Anyone can run as an independent... IF you have gobs of money.
Unfortunately, the system is rigged. Because a third-party vote essentially allows the worse of the two major candidates to win, they never stand a chance.
Voting needs to change so that you can select more than one candidate for any position. When we can split our votes, third party candidates will not only have a change, they can easily win.
(E.g., you vote Dem and for an independent, I vote Rep and for the independent, the independent gets 2 votes, they each got 1. If that trend continues, the indie actually stands a chance to win.)
Of course, the only way that kind of voting would be enacted is if Congress passes such a law or we have it as a Constitutional amendment. Since the 2 major parties rule Congress, that's NEVER going to happen... unless enough people rise up and demand it.

I don't believe there are. FDR ran independent for one of his reelections.
It's just how closed minded our country is that we feel, we only REALLY have two choices for President. We all know that if you vote for someone else either a Repub or a Demo will win.

You would be considered a independent.
There will always be political parties.The reason why is there will always be people with similar political believes that will pull resources and call themselves something.
