Are these musical sections homophonic or polyphonic?

I'm doing a Music Appreciation essay in which I compare a contemporary song with a past composition, and I'm having a very difficult time distinguishing polyphony from homophony. Yes, I've read about musical texture, but I still have a hard time distinguishing the two. Are the following sections of this song polyphonic or homophonic and why?

Warning: this is a progressive death metal song. Please do not make baseless criticisms without first answering my question.
