I'm puzzled by your choice of words "COOKING RIGHT", as that implies there is only one correct way to do things in the kitchen... Modern culinary exploits may be MORE ADVANCED than ancient ones, but that doesn't necessarily relegate the old ways to being wrong!
But based on the amount of cooking shows on television and the popularity of people like Gordon Ramsey, Martha Stewart, Paula Deen, Rachel Ray, etc, etc... I think perhaps the correct answer to your question is that there is obviously MORE EXPOSURE TO GOURMET COOKING than there used to be... and when you pair that with internet shopping, personal chefs, emphasis on nutritional science, expanding of ethnic foods in grocery stores, exotic produce markets, rare heirloom vegetable seed companies, hydroponics, organic farming, cookbook software, and instantaneous email recipe filesharing, you have a perfect recipe for a yummy world!! ;-)
Whether or not people have the JOY OF COOKING is a completely different topic altogether. Some people cannot cook well, but have a household full of family members to cook 3 squares a day for. They may feel chained to the stove! Other people may be terrific gourmet cooks, but are all alone with no one to share a single meal with... and THAT, my friend, is a complete travesty!!!
Cooking, like life, is what you make it, and should never ever EVER be boring ;-)
