My best friend and I have been writing a book together for the last year and a half. We have only recently gotten serious about going back and fixing it up so that maybe it will be published one day.
The problem is, the beginning of the story involved a 14 year old boy in a relationship with an abusive 18 year old boy. We've agreed to keep the scenes where the sexual abuse happens to a minimum and not go into very much detail about it but the majority of the story involves relationships between 16 and 17 year olds and there is a lot of sex involved.
It's basically erotica.
So, my question is, are there certain rules you have to abide by when writing something you plan to try and have published?
Is it okay if we write about detailed sexual scenes?
Should we change the ages so that they are of legal age when they have sex?
It's frustrating because the focus is on their 16 and 17 year old lives because it's about what they go through as teenagers.
Thank you very much for your help =]
