Me and my friend ( both in the army, so have plenty of experience ) want to go on a mountain biking expedition in california. We'll be staying in Newport beach, so is there anywhere we could go? We want to make our own route, not follow trails so we'd be going into the wilderness unaccompanied for 3 days. I believe that Yosemite only permits you to follow trails? so this is unsuitable.
Are there any national parks eg. Yosemite near LA we can go mountain biking in?
