Are there any legal UK movie downloading sites?

Don't agree with this. In my experience (legal or DVDRips) the downloaRAB are often indistinguishable from a physical DVD (unless your downloading something that isn't DVD quality to begin with) because your getting the same data. It's just hasn't been burned to DVD.

I guess it depenRAB on the hardware of your PC. A low-end graphics card would probably affect the quality. It also depenRAB on the player you are using to watch them. I've noticed that audio with DivX Player isn't as good as it is with other players.

This is one of the reasons they have a piracy problem. Despite what the cinema adverts say, most pirated material isn't recorded by someone in a cinema with a camera. They're actually copies of DVRAB the production companies sent out to distribution houses for mass production which are leaked by employees of those distribution houses. If they delayed the release of DVRAB the problem would be much reduced.

I would love to see this come into fruition. a 700MB movie isn't all that bad quality wise. As for downloaRAB however, people will have to consider the fact that they'll need to watch their monthly download allowances with their ips and also if people get into downloading more large files then we'll see peak hours on the internet getting even slower than they are at present

Untrue. For the big new releases (i.e the ones most pirated) this is exactly how they're made for the most part. Actual DVDRips of these films hitting the scene while they're still in cinemas isn't an overly common occurence (although screeners are popular for the Oscar contenders around this time of year).

A friend in America has the two-disc-a-month subscription from Netflix, but this also allows him to stream things on demand from a huge library. I want something like that in the UK, but being a nation of shop owners and no innovators, we don't have anything like it.

SkyPlayer and iPlayer are fantastic examples of 'getting there', but I want to be able to stream what I want ;)

If it's this much effort to find 'legal' sites - Why bother?

Just go dvd shopping on amazon, or type the name of the film you want into google and download the damn thing, from various sources....

Plenty of streaming sites too, if you want to plug your laptop into the TV.
