I'm 22. Attended an expensive private 4 year college (guidance counselor suggested shooting for the best) for 2 years, but couldn't afford basic living necessities/books/supplies. I was 18 and unsure of the FAFSA/Tuition/loans and let the adults handle it. Was a huge mooch (everything from ramen to deodorant) and quit mid semester. (no car/parental support/non work study eligible because I got Need Based grant). Now to have my transcript sent to a smaller/cheaper college I owe the college $5000.
I lived on my own-relying on a bus and moped for the last year. My education getting me no further than your typical $7.25 an hour job. Been through homelessness plenty of times. Not eating. Mopeding through winter/snow/rain. Walking miles alone to and from work at night-I'm only 115bs. Struggled and got hit with a flood of bad luck in a month's time and laid off unexpectedly-broke-evicted. Now I'm back at my mom's house with my 3 younger siblings-where the financial situation is all SSI/Child Support. Student Loans will make my tax returns just dandy *sarcasm*
I'm considering the military now because I'm "out of options". I'm one of those "artistic", free spirited, speak my mind always, piercings and tats type of girl *my piercings and tats are easily hide-able for the military* BUT I know I'm only considering this because I don't wanna be stuck at my mom's house for the rest of my life. I know that I'm doing this CLEARLY for money to pay for my school, a way to relocate, a steady job, and not particularly because I wanna serve my country and risk my life. Sacrifices must be made tho.
I just want to know if there are any other options besides signing up for something that I'm gonna "grit my teeth and bear" while risking my life possibly. Its come down to this or being a stripper...adult jobs...
I would love to finish my education, but I can't get loans/grants/scholarships UNLESS I'm enrolled in school...so paying off that $5000 for 2 years worth of grades is becoming near impossible.
Working a $7.25 an hour job will NOT get me that money or out of my mom's-especially now with that Past Eviction on my record. Getting another place will be hard.
And with the military wait for going to basic being up to a year sometimes...idk if that's even dependable.
How do you get ahead here?
