Hi guys,

I'm interested on buying a Yamaha Vstar 650. I see a lot on Craigslist at prices that I can pay for. But I don't now much about the personal background of these bikes reputation! Are they fast? Are they reliable? Can you get high mileage and can they last for years?

Any information would be great. Thanks

I had a 2001 classic for six years. I'ts a good bike for around town and day trips. It does sound busy at highway speeds but the motor will take it. I got around 47 mpg with it. They accererlate fairly fast if you wind them out and top speed on mine was 90 mph. The early years had problems with the driveshaft coupler stripping out and fifth gear pitting because of improper heat treatment at the factory. I had both problems and traded it in for a 2008 roadstar which I love. If you want more information log on to the I.S.R.A. site and go to the 650 forum where you will get tons of information on the v-stars. I hope this helped
