Are the Toyota Yaris sedan or Scion XD big enough for family cars?

I have 2 small children, I am thinking about 1 of these cars because of gas mileage.. I've seen them both on the road but I think they might be too small for a family. I drive a Saturn sedan right now and it's the perfect size, I don't think I could do much smaller. Can anyone with experience or a family who owns one of these give me some advice? I'm also considering the Chevy HHR and the Scion XB because they look large enough, but gas mileage isn't as great as the other 2.
 
Saturns are really reliable, so go to the Saturn dealer and get another Saturn. I have friends that have an Aura and Outlook and never had problems.
