Are the live fish they sell in supermarket fish tanks healthy?

My wife is Chinese. She likes to buy fish from the Chinese supermarkets where they keep them live in the fish tanks until you buy them.. My question is, does anyone know how healthy these fish are to eat? They are cheap, and they are fresh, but I know other things effect the quality of farm-raised fish, like what they feed them and the quality of the water they are kept in.. And I don't think the Chinese are more concerned about price than they are about ensuring the health and safety. They just like it because it's fresh and cheap.. Does anyone have any knowledge about whether it is healthier to eat these fresh but maybe unhealthy fish, or would it be better to buy fish fillets from a reputable fish market?

Generally people consume the fish if the fish looks fresh, be it fresh fish or fillets doesn't make a difference.
Check the fish if its fresh, its better you buy the whole fish that way you will know on the skin if its fresh OR not.

Take your friend or a person who is more acquainted with buying fish

Hideto Matsumoto loved restaurants like that...he was great.. they must be healthier than the dead ones that have been sitting around so yes they are healthier. nutrients in meat go away very quickly after death
