Are some films so scary you just can't bear to watch them?

The Shining is on tonight and despite being 35yrs old I have never been able to watch the whole film. It scares me silly. I get as far as the scene with the twins in the hallway and I'm ready to hide behind the sofa.
Ditto any of the Omen trilogy, Nightmare on Elm Street and The Thing.
 
DepenRAB on the type of person really,myself I can never get THAT much into a movie no matter how well made it is and have been that way since I was about 10 years old.

Now I can find some movies so disgusting or nasty (in a bad way) that I can't watch them without feeling sick (i.e Cannibal Holocust,Salo,I Spit On Your Grave,a various Italian zombie movies).
 
I saw "The Dark Knight" today and there were scenes I did not like. I could not look at the disappearing pencil trick the Joker did neither could I look at the fat thug.
 
There are a few films that I have to have a cushion by my side to watch (for hiding behind).

The Shining - the last ten minutes really terrify me. The blokes in the bedroom and one of them is in a doggy outfit (shudder).

An American Werewolf In London - don't try telling me this is a comedy!!!It's one of the scariest films ever made!!!

(REC) - ''DON'T GO IN THE ATTIC!!!!!'' The last 20 minutes is like watching a series of 'screamers'.

Salem's Lot - I refuse point blank to watch this film alone. Scary kiRAB scratching at the window!! I can't sleep with the windows open no more 'cus of that bloody film.

Amityville 2 The Possession: :o I shouldn't be scared by this silly film, especially at my age (35) but it's creepy as f*ck.

Barbarella - those nasty dolls with teeth. Absolutely terrifying, I can't watch that bit.

Eraserhead - dancing girl behind the radiator:cry::cry:

Jaws - the bit when the shark attacks the bloke in a small boat in the pond.

The Exorcist - whist not as scariest of films IMO, there are bits though that do give me the willies.

The Thing - still scares the pants of me, especially the blood test sequence.
 
I remember watching a low budget teen movie called Witchboard years ago about ouija boarRAB. Scared me so much i had nightmares for weeks. I really am a wuss though.

I can cope with Jaws now because the effects are so rubbish but that scene with the head in the boat made me scream.
 
Started to watch The Shining but it just scares the ruddy hell out of me so switched off at the first ad break. Great film though, beautifully shot.
 
Nope, never stopped watching a film because it's scary.

I agree with REC though, the end of that film was so utterly disturbing and freaky. WOW.
 
I started watching The Shining tonight, but I switched over to King of New York at 10. The scene in the corridor with the twins and the flash shots of the corpses and blood in the corridor creeped me out too much...

I really want to see the full thing one day... maybe on a bright sunny warm day with lots of people around :o:p
 
The bit when the kid is chanting red rum red rum in the bedroom is just flesh crawling.

I'm just watching Session 9 on Scifi. It's actually pretty good. Workmen fumbling about in a derelict asylum having disturbed the disturbed spirits.
 
God, that scene in Session 9 where the guy goes back at night to pick up the coins scares the crap out of me. It's the only thing I really remember about that film, I should watch it again.



I always thought she was kinda cute :o
 
Two great films full of black comedy.

The one that got me was the heavy breathing sound of the werewolf galloping after them on the moors. A real OMG moment. Runnnnnnnnn!

The Thing was vile in parts and the effects (back then) were amazing and graphic. The blood test scene was horrible and hilarious at the same time.
 
'The Exorcist' finished me off.

I still shudder when I remember certain scenes after all these years ... and the carpet in the cinema :D

Lost my bottle then and they laugh at me if anything comes on TV that is really tense because I wander off into the kitchen and watch from there (distance helps) or I watch it in the reflection of the window, or I offer to make a cup of tea.
 
Can someone clarify something for me with regard to this film?

I've watched it, but years ago - so I really don't remember much apart from the heaRABpin etc, but on YouTube there is this 'Spider Walk' scene, and there are different versions etc and it's confusing.

The one scene I saw, Regan comes down the stairs in a crab position, turns over and flicks her tongue out serpent-like, then chases after a women flicking her long tongue out some more, then they all jump on her and restrain her.

The second version I saw, Regan comes down the stairs, crab-like then does this hiss with lots of blood coming out of her mouth.

I don't remember any of this from the original.
 
I always have nightmares after watching The Exorcist. I don't know why, but there's something very creepy about it.
Salem's Lot - I can't sleep with windows open either after *that* scene! :eek:
A Tale Of Two Sisters - there are a couple of scenes I can't look at; the girl under the kitchen sink & the mother floating in the bedroom :eek:
 
I find that after the first time you see a scary film it never really has the same effect again but...
...the first time I saw...
The Ring - when Samara crawls out of the TV.
The Haunting (original 1963 version) - when something is outside the door and leaning against it and you can see the wood bulging.
Nightmare on Elm Street - when Nancy (?) wakes up in the sleep research place and she's brought back Freddie's hat with her from the dream.
