are snails a good idea in a fish tank?

some people say its not a good idea to put snails in with your fish and some people say it is a good idea, i have brown and green algae on my rocks in my tank and no were else i've tried to scrub them off but it seems not to work shall i get some snail, plus i have a plec to and tiger oscars with plenty of filtration can anyone help.
 
Let me tell you this:
Snails breed like the plague!
I had a couple in my tank and within a few months I had hundreds of tiny snails!

Also if just a single snail dies and you don't get it out right away it will polute the tank and kill your fish.

I don't reccomend them but there may be some varieties that don't breed so rapidly, ask your pet store..

I stick with good 'ol sucking catfish to clean my ornaments.
