are scotland a dominating factor in sport?

what with andy murry well on the way to winning
wimbledon, and the national football team guaranteed the 2010 world cup, such an achievement for a small nation,,, no

Youre not guaranteed the 2010 world cup. You havent even qualified yet and you might not even get into the playoffs so dont assume youre there. Murray is a good tennis player and youve had greats such as Kenny Dalglish but the chances of good sportsmen are as good as anywhere else with a lot of money being pumped into training facilities

S-M, you're going to talk Scotland into being the greatest sporting nation ever at this rate! Forget Murray, tennis is ok but caber throwing, shot putting, haggis chasing and eating followed swiftly by the imbation of Scotland's finest water is the best kind of sport and all done by those gorgeous men from the Scots Porridge Oats advert - what more could anyone want to watch? Why don't we see the Highland Games on TV anymore?

Croatia has a population to Scotland's yet they managed to come 3rd in the 1998 World Cup. Scotland have yet to qualify for the second phase of any World Cup.
But we do have Sir Chris Hoy and the Womens Curling Team who are usually there or there abouts at championships.

Murray is British, right up until he's knocked out of Wimbledon-then he becomes Scottish.

Andy Murray has still got a few large challenges in his way before that. But he has done really well.

I think we could qualify for 2010 but we will have to play better.

We have done very well compared with our recent history.
