The Republicans, in their standard Manifest Destiny, Hegemony, Imperialistic form are condemning Obama for not being more forceful in intervening and interfering with the Election dust up in Iran.
Yet no one, except Obama and a few other intellectuals who have studied US/Iran history, are aware of the resentment and bitterness that still swells in the soul of Iranians.
In 1953, Iran overwhelmingly, and democratically, elected a president, Mossadegh was lawyer that also held a masters degree in Economics and a Ph.D in Philosophy, He wanted Iran to get a 50/50 split of oil profits. Unfortunately US and British oil companies wanted a 80 percent. So the CIA and British Intelligence planned and funded a coup. Overthrowing a democratically-elected Iranian government and putting in place a dictator, the Shah, to do their bidding.
For 25 years, the Shah (with US trained secret police) embarked on a reign of terror. Iran never suffered during WWII, but historians say that during the US-backed Shah's reign, it was akin to Nazi atrocities of torture, summary executions, fear and terror.
The American people, oblivious that their government and tax dollars were being used to kill, torture and brutalize 50 million Iranians for 25 years, continued to fill up their cars with cheap Iranian-produced gasoline.
So why are today's Republicans ignorant of this tragic and horrific history? If foreign governments tried to intervene in our internal affairs, wouldn't we be resentful too?
Is anyone thinking?
Marina, start by Googling Mossadegh.

Very good Otto. Operation Ajax.
For those who don't know history google Operation Ajax.
I do agree, the Shah was supported by both Democrat and Republican presidents. But today the Republicans are the ones who are calling for US intervention in Iran's internal affairs. So I am calling them out.
