Are people allowed inside the palace of the fine arts in san francisco?

I was passing by the place and it was so beautiful...I was wondering are we allowed to go inside? and if so how? were we ever allowed to go inside? does anybody know where i can find pictures of the inside of the palace...? And if we are not allowed inside y not? Im sorry I know im asking a lot but this place just took my breath away.
